DIRECTOR: U.S. OPERATIONS

As the former Director of Operations at Piece Unik, I oversaw the day-to-day operations of this groundbreaking fashion house dedicated to showcasing the unique talents of 1-of-1 artists. I was passionate about fostering a creative environment that empowered artists and brought their vision to life.

My role involved managing logistics, coordinating production, and ensuring that our operations aligned with Piece Unik's commitment to supporting emerging talent and promoting sustainable fashion.

PROCESS ROADMAP

Before assuming the role of Director, I proactively developed a comprehensive process roadmap to ensure a smooth transition and effective leadership. This involved conducting in-depth interviews with team members to identify their priorities and challenges. By consolidating and analyzing their insights, I was able to streamline processes, eliminate redundancies, and identify areas for improvement.

To support the team's efforts, I compiled essential assets such as model lists and artist outreach templates. Additionally, I created new tools, including feedback forms and visual identity boards, to enhance efficiency and consistency. This proactive approach laid a solid foundation for my leadership and contributed to the team's overall success.

SHOW:
NEW YORK
FASHION WEEK

Building upon the success of the process roadmap, I was entrusted with leading fashion shows for the company, leading to my appointment as the Director of US Operations. To strategically expand our reach to the East Coast and tap into a new pool of talent, I chose to host a show in a city outside of our traditional market: New York.

By efficiently planning and executing the show in a shorter-than-usual timeframe, we were able to capitalize on the high-profile platform of New York Fashion Week. As the driving force, I oversaw various aspects of the production, including artist management, hiring and team management, graphic design, merchandise development, ticket sales, marketing, venue negotiations and budgeting.

The event was a resounding success, featuring a diverse lineup of emerging artists and selling out completely.

THE ARTISTS

What set this group of artists apart from prior shows was my commitment to diversity. Departing from tradition, I was committed to showcasing an equal number of male and female artists.

While only men responded to the initial call for artists, I took the initiative to reach out to talented female artists who had inspired me. I was thrilled when they all agreed to participate. This was one of the most rewarding aspects of the process.

THE PIECES + STYLING

From 3D-printed garments to spray-painted leather jackets and upcycled straw tops, the pieces showcased were truly exceptional. Notably, several pieces sold for record-breaking prices, marking a significant victory for art-wear and sustainable fashion.

As the stylist, I created a visual guide for each actor to ensure that the pieces were presented in a cohesive manner. In addition to the actors' own contributions, I was fortunate to source additional items from FAM Collective, my personal company dedicated to supporting emerging upcycle artists. I am deeply grateful to all the artists who entrusted me with their work.

The ability to curate these looks exclusively from pre-owned or handmade art-wear was a source of immense satisfaction and a testament to the success of the project.

Christopher a.k.a. Clippa, Artist

Creating this show was a challenging journey. Yet, amidst the challenges,

I found moments of profound connection and personal growth.

I am most proud of the moments when open dialogue led to increased sensitivity and kindness. I am also proud of my ability to balance my own emotions while creating a safe and supportive space for the artists. Additionally, I am gratified by my refusal to accept limitations and my determination to lead and perform at the highest level, even in the face of adversity.

These accomplishments may not be flashy, but they are the ones I truly value. I didn't pursue this role for personal gain; rather, I was driven by a desire to create a more supportive and equitable environment for artists and their creations. This experience has reaffirmed my belief in the power of individual actions to shape a better world.
